A strong emphasis is placed on education in Winneshiek County, with top-notch offerings ranging from kindergarten all the way through a four-year college.
Three of the four school districts within the county offer K-12 education. These are Decorah Community School District, South Winneshiek Community School District and Turkey Valley Community School District. A fourth district, North Winneshiek Community School District, offers K-8 instruction.
There are three high schools in the county: Decorah High School, South Winneshiek High School and Turkey Valley High School.
Decorah Community School District educated 1,735 K-12 students during the 2010-11 school year.
In addition to the K-12 schools, Winneshiek County is home to Northeast Iowa Community College, a two-year school with main campuses in Calmar and Peosta.
Rounding out the educational offerings in the county is the 150-year-old liberal arts school, Luther College. Luther is Winneshiek County’s leading employing with more than 600 workers. Each year around 2500 students are enrolled at Luther.
