Laborshed Analysis

Decorah's Available Workforce is Highly Educated and Skilled

Decorah-area employers seeking to retain or add to the high quality of employees currently on their payrolls have been given a new tool to help them achieve that sometimes lofty goal. That tool is a laborshed analysis. Completed by Iowa Workforce Development, the analysis shows that Decorah has a highly educated and skilled workforce, with those workers showing a higher-than-average willingness to seek new employment.

Designed to assist local and potential businesses in better understanding the area’s labor force, the analysis is a collaborative effort between IWD and Winneshiek County Development, Inc. The analysis also took an in-depth look at the willingness of area residents to:

  • Work a second or third shift
  • Commute 15 miles, 25 miles or 30 miles one way for a job
  • Begin working in Decorah if currently working out of town
  • Come out of early retirement to accept a job
  • Switch jobs based on a new benefit being offered
